Distinguishing the Three Famous Linh Ung Pagodas in Da Nang

Linh Ung Pagoda Bai But

Linh Ung Pagoda Bai But, also known as Linh Ung Son Tra Pagoda, is located halfway up the Son Tra Peninsula in Tho Quang Ward, Son Tra District, about 12 km from the city center of Da Nang.

Situated at an altitude of about 693 meters above sea level, this is the largest Linh Ung Pagoda in Da Nang in terms of both scale and architectural design. The pagoda is open daily from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

Built on a spacious area of around 12 hectares, the pagoda complex includes many impressive structures such as the Main Hall, the Ancestral Hall, the Monks’ Residence, the Lecture Hall, the Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva statue, the Lumbini Garden, and the Deer Park.

The pagoda enjoys a unique feng shui location, with its back leaning against the mountains and its front facing the sea. This harmony between mountain and ocean is believed to bring prosperity and positive energy.

One of the most remarkable highlights here is the 67-meter-tall statue of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, the tallest statue of its kind in Vietnam. Inside the statue are 17 floors, each containing altars with a total of 21 Buddha statues, symbolizing the concept of “Buddha within Buddha”.

Linh Ung Pagoda Marble Mountains

Linh Ung Pagoda Marble Mountains, also known as Linh Ung Non Nuoc Pagoda or the “Outer Pagoda”, is located in Hoa Hai Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District, about 10 km from downtown Da Nang.

The pagoda sits on Thuy Son, the most beautiful and largest mountain in the famous Marble Mountains complex. It is open daily from 6:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

This Linh Ung Pagoda is known for its ancient and historical charm. Over the centuries, it has undergone several restorations and even changes in name.

Although the pagoda has the smallest campus among the three Linh Ung pagodas, its architecture is still very impressive. One notable structure is the 30-meter-high Sarira Tower, located to the left of the pagoda, which houses around 200 stone statues and 40 reliefs depicting Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and Arhats.

The site also features a 10-meter statue of Shakyamuni Buddha and a peaceful Quan Am altar, creating a tranquil spiritual atmosphere.

Linh Ung Pagoda Ba Na

Linh Ung Pagoda Ba Na was inaugurated in 2004 and is located within the famous resort complex of Ba Na Hills in Hoa Ninh Commune, Hoa Vang District.

The pagoda is built on the slopes of Chua Mountain at an altitude of approximately 1,400 meters above sea level.

From this location, visitors can enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including the vast forests of Ba Na, the sweeping Da Nang Bay, the winding Son Tra Peninsula, and the distant Marble Mountains.

The architecture of Linh Ung Pagoda Ba Na follows the Northern Buddhist tradition, featuring elegant curved roofs and intricate decorative details. The courtyard in front of the pagoda is paved entirely with white stone.

Each structure in the complex is meticulously designed, and the roofs are shaped in the traditional “double dragon facing the moon” motif, a common symbol in Vietnamese temple architecture.
